Products description
When BLITZ broke up, half of the band took the name ROSE OF VICTORY and recorded these 2 tracks. 2019 re-release on Radiation, gray vinyl.
Very rocking, groovy sound which doesn't seem to hide the grime of the early days though.
Great disc!
Here briefly to the history...:
The history of the northern English band Blitz has taken an unusual course. Formed in the small industrial town of New Mills in Derbyshire (once known for coal mines, cotton mills and calico bleaching), Blitz began as a hardcore band. Their first two albums were considered classics of the "street punk" and oi subgenres of the early 1980s, but the third album, "Second Empire Justice," shifted their sound in a completely unexpected post-punk/new wave direction, with intricate arrangements, greater musical complexity, and a generally softer style. Unfortunately, the album was a commercial failure that spelled their final demise. However, just as the band was kicking the bucket, bassist Neil McLennan and guitarist Nidge Miller, along with drummer Gary Bowler and engineer Nigel Beverley (vocals), formed Rose Of Victory and recorded a unique version of Bowie's "Suffragette City" combined with an equally intriguing "Miller instrumental" on the flipside. Rose Of Victory never got beyond that initial offering, however, leaving the single a unique memento of their faltering creativity.
