First part of the two-part discography series. This two-volume record set, containing State of Fear's complete discography, could not have been released at a better time, as the hardcore/crust scene is currently on the rise again in the USA. A new generation of punks have been scouring the filthy depths of the genre to find the classics, and State of Fear meet all the criteria of a classic hardcore band. Made up of former members of DISRUPT and DEFORMED CONSCIOUS, State of Fear pursued a more streamlined hardcore than their earlier bands, but retained the political and gritty themes of the crust bands from which they had emerged. This was hardcore made by fans of Swedish bands like SKITLICKERS, MOB 47 and ANTI-CIMEX, and although they clearly wore their influences on their tongues, they created a sound that was enigmatically their own. They entered the scene in the heyday of the Minneapolis crust explosion spearheaded by Profane Existence in 1994, and immediately made a name for themselves with their powerful live shows and unapologetic style. Volume 1 contains the self-titled debut and the infamous 'Wallow in Squalor' EP. State of Fear present a devastating combination of speed and catchy riffs that no other band in America has had to offer since. Songs like 'Blood Thirsty System', 'Violation' and 'Consumption' emboldened a generation of punks in the 90s and validated their anger at the political system that sadly still endures. These songs will not lose their appeal until the bloodthirsty system falls. Sonarize Records has included a large format 12-page booklet containing a biography, interviews, lyrics and hard-to-find photos of the band.
