GREAT PLAINS - The Mark, Don & Mel E.P. + 4 - LP

Remastered, expanded reissue of their rare debut EP from 1983, with 4 additional bonus tracks. Neither cartoonishly angry enough for punk nor polished/affected enough for what would ultimately be called ‘indie’. GREAT PLAINS from Columbus, Ohio, were an idiosyncratic special case from start to finish.
It reminds me a bit of the German band BILLY AND THE WILLIES or VIOLENT FEMMES: what these guys are doing here is quirky and, in places, very dark, with the organ and psychotic vocals creating a particularly crazy atmosphere.
