And in full detail:
What I did when Ronald Reagan was president
By John Reen Davis
Age 62 1/2
Torry invited me to perform with his new band, Anarchitex. Torry took over the vocals, keyboards and occasionally the guitar. Eddie the G (Geier) improvised on guitar and I sang. The drums came from a drum machine, Torry's Casio VL-1. Our first concert was on 8 April 1983 on the loading dock of the Jack Pierce Building, opening for The Crucifucks on the first leg of the Rock Against Reagan tour and another with The Crucifucks at The Island. There may have been one more show at The Island before it closed.
On 21 September 1983, we performed at the Warehouse with a new line-up featuring local icon JR Delgado on bass and Ken Black on guitar. When Ken left, Don Walsh replaced him on guitar. We were still using a drum machine until Hal ("Rev Hap Hazard") joined us on drums sometime in 1984.
I left the band for a few weeks in 1984 after an dispute with Torry. The band played some "guerrilla gigs" in commercial car parks without asking the owners. Rick Tillinghast was the singer at the time.
I rejoined the band in time to play before the 1984 Republican Party Convention in Dallas. We wrote a song about Lee Harvey Oswald especially for that event. I'm sure I have an FBI record for that. Anarchitex also played at the Yippie Encampment and did a guerrilla gig in the car park of a nightclub called Circle A Ranch.
JR left the band in late '84 and was replaced by Torry's bandmate from Naked Amerika, Scott Ayers. A saxophonist named Dave Sawyer was brought in to replace Don. During these changes Torry made an experimental film called Employee with myself, Scott and Dave.
In late 1985 Bob Weber (Really Red and Culturcide) started playing drums with us. The five of us performed together until the end of 1986. The last thing we did that year was record a split cassette with the Pain Teens (Scott's other band) called "You Can't Fight City Hall/Psychoactive". After that Dave Sawyer moved back to New York and Bob was taken up by his job as an engineer.
We got back together in 2007 with Torry, myself, Scott and Bob for a reunion show. We had a lot of fun and got a positive audience response, so we teamed up for another five years. In 2010, we recorded our best songs at SugarHill Studios and released the album Digital Dark Age. In 2011, we played release shows all over Texas. Our last show during that time was in November 2012.
In August 2019, we reunited for a benefit show at Rudyard's Pub, which was digitally released as "In a Public Place".
